Volos
Volos successfully combines everything
and, in a few words, it adapts to the visitor.
Volos is a coastal port city in Thessaly situated midway on the Greek mainland,
about 330 kilometres north of Athens and 220 kilometres south of Thessaloniki.
It is the capital of the Magnesia regional unit. Volos is the only outlet to
the sea from Thessaly, the country's largest agricultural region.
The city
I
think that the most special part of the city is the port. There you can enjoy
your morning coffee with a tempting croissant, get in shape by running next to
the sea, have a tasty meal (served with tsipouro) or hang out at night.
Then, I'm sure that you'll enjoy the pedestrian as well. On this street, you can find most of the Volos' stores.

Pilio
Pilio
is a mountainous area, where many small villages are built. These villages are
so beautiful that can't be described fairly, but I'll give it a try! They all are
very quaintly
and traditional and the view is
just breathtaking. They all have central squares from where you can enjoy the
landscape. Just to name a few villages that are worth visiting are Portaria,
Makrinitsa and Zagora. Finally, apart from the villages, at the foot of the
mountains, there are lots of magnificent beaches where you can swim and enjoy
the beauty of Pilio.
And a
few sights...
- Volos castle is closely linked to the region's history. So, if you are interested in learning more about Volos, it's a good way to do it.
- The large park of Agios Konstantinos provides the city with oxygen for years. It is the best place in the city to have a break and both kids and adults will like it.
- Athanasakeion Archaeological Museum of Volos and Tsalapatas Museum are the museums that you'd better visit.
- Dimini Archaeological Site and Sesklo Archaeological Sites are the Archaeological Sites that you'd better go to!
- And finally, the Pelion Railway is the oldest and most beautiful tourist train in Greece, as it passes through the most amazing landscapes of the area!
