What is air pollution?

Main causes
Air pollution is caused by solid and liquid particles and certain gases that are suspended in the air. These particles and gases can come from car and truck exhaust, factories, dust, pollen, mould spores, volcanoes and wildfires. The solid and liquid particles suspended in our air are called aerosols. Effects
Breathing polluted air puts you at a higher risk for asthma and other respiratory diseases. When exposed to ground ozone for 6 to 7 hours, scientific evidence shows that healthy people's lung function decreased and they suffered from respiratory inflammation. Read more
What can be done
- Don't use plastic bags!
- Conserve energy! Remember to turn off the lights, computers and electric appliances when not in use.
- Avoid using the car; Use a bicycle instead!
- Use energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances!
